this is the brain center for the whole studio. the big thing in the
middle with all the knobs is the Mixing Console.this is where all
the sounds go before they go to or from the tape machines. it is a
1974 MCI 428 discreet console. it's the same model used on a lot of
classic recordings. (folks like LedZeppelin, the Eagles,Eric CLapton
and Chagall Guevarra have all recorded wonderful music with the MCI
428.) it gives drums a beautiful "thud" and makes digital
recordings sound so warm, you'd think they were cut to 2" analog..
this is the console that most of the Over the Rhine "good dog,
bad dog" record as well as "quiver" and "hush"
were mixed on. next to the console is the first Effects rack. it has
mostly compressors like the Gates Sta-Level tube compressors and the
Altec tube limiting amplifier (i'm a sucker for these great sounding
antiques. atop this rack are the Neve 33114 modules. on the other
side of the console is the second Effects Rack with a few different
types of echo and some reverb units etc. these are all wired into
the main console and used for mixing,

The
quicktime movie should start playing by itself... it's a rather
large file, though, so it may take awhile on slower connections...
you'll also need the Apple Quicktime plugin to view these videos.
if the movie doesn't play, click here
to download the plugin...
